Lake
of Bolsena and Bolsena Town: Distance:12 km
from Rinaldone (lake) and 25 km (town).
Lake of Bolsena is a crater lake of central Italy, of volcanic origin,
which was formed starting 370,000 years ago following the collapse
of a caldera of the Vulsini volcanic complex into a deep aquifer.
Roman historic records indicate activity of the Vulsini volcano
occurred as recently as 104 BC, since when it has been dormant.
The two islands in the southern part of the lake were formed by
underwater eruptions following the initial collapse of the caldera.

Sutri
and its Roman Theatre: 10 km from Rinaldone.
Sutri is picturesquely situated on a narrow tuff hill, surrounded
by ravines, a narrow neck on the west alone connecting it with the
surrounding country.
The modern comune of Sutri has a few more than 5,000 inhabitants.
It ancient remains are a major draw for tourism: a Roman amphitheatre
excavated in the tuff rock, an Etruscan necropolis with dozens of
rock-cut tombs, a Mithraeum incorporated in the crypt of its church
of the Madonna del Parto, a Romanesque Duomo.
Necropolis
of Norchia: 30 km from Rinaldone.
Norchia is an ancient Etruscan city with an adjacent necropolis,
near Vetralla in Italy. Some sources identify it with the ancient
Etruscan town known as Orclae, whose name is reported in medieval
sources. The site is along the via Clodia, and is not far from the
more well known Etruscan town of Tarquinia. The locale was already
inhabited in the Bronze Age, and the city and its adjoining necropolis
grew with the arrival of the Etruscans. The urban settlement reached
its high point between the 4th and 2nd centuries B.C.
Civita

Rinaldone. is a town in the Province of Viterbo in Central
Italy, a frazione of the comune of Bagnoregio, 2 km (about 1 mile)
W from it. It is about 145 km (90 mi) north of Rome. It
was founded by Etruscans over twenty-five hundred years ago, has
seen its population dwindle to just fifteen residents over the course
of the 20th century. Civita was the birthplace of Saint Bonaventure,
born in 1274. The location of his boyhood house has long since fallen
off the edge of the cliff.
Tarquinia
and Necropolis of Monterozzi :45 km
from Rinaldone: The necropolis of Monterozzi lies
just over two miles to the east of the modern city of Tarquinia.
It is famous for the marvellous paintings of its frescoed tombs,
which represent one of the greatest examples of pictorial art in
the ancient world. Today the location of more than one hundred and
fifty painted tombs are known, but only a small number of these
can be visited.
Tuscania:
24 km from Rinaldone. According
to the legend, Tuscania was founded by Aeneas' son, Ascanius, where
he had found twelve dog pups (whence the Etruscan name Tus-Cana,
cana begin similar to Latin canis for "dog"). Another
legend attributes the foundation to one Tusco, son of Hercules and
Araxes. Evidence of human presence in the area dates from the Neolithic
age, but probably the city proper was built around the 7th century
BCE when the acropolis on St. Peter Hill was surrounded by a line
of walls. Villages existed in the neighbourhood. In the following
years the strategical position granted Tuscania a leader role in
the Etruscan world.
Montefiascone:12
km from Rinaldone. Montefiascone
is located on the highest point of the volcanic ridge surrounding
the Lake of Bolsena. It is visible from the plateau of Viterbo from
a very great distance and it is thought the Etruscans built on this
site their most sacred shrine. The town flourished in the Middle
Ages around a fortified rock and in the XIIth and XIIIth century
it acquired importance as a safe haven for the popes, often forced
to flee from the Papal Palace of Viterbo.
Necropolis
of Pianezze: 20 km from Rinaldone.
Situated at south approximately three kilometers from Grotte di
Castro, delimited at east from the road that reaches Bolsena Lake.
Is an Etruscan Necropolis from the V Centrury before Christ.
